Earn while you learn. IBEW Local 113 represents two apprenticeship paths — Inside (Wireman) and Outside (Lineman). Choose your path below to learn how to get started.
CHOOSE YOUR PATH
There are two apprenticeship programs. Pick the one that fits the career you want. Each is run by its own training center — that's who you apply to.
Inside — Wireman
Apprentice Wireman
Inside Wiremen are the electricians who install and maintain the wiring, controls and electrical systems in commercial, industrial and residential buildings. The Inside apprenticeship is a paid, earn-while-you-learn program combining on-the-job training with classroom instruction, run by the Colorado Springs Electrical JATC.

Inside Wireman
Install and maintain the wiring, controls and electrical systems in commercial, industrial and residential buildings.
VDV / Telecommunications Installer Technician
Install and service low-voltage voice, data and video systems — structured cabling, networks and fiber.

Colorado Springs Electrical JATC
The JATC is a partnership between IBEW Local 113 and NECA. Contact John DeLuke, Training Director, to apply directly through the JATC office or website during open enrollment.
Outside — Lineman
Apprentice Lineman
Outside Linemen build and maintain the overhead and underground power lines that make up the electrical grid. The Outside apprenticeship is run by MSLCAT — the Mountain States Line Constructors Apprenticeship & Training program — serving a multi-state region. The closest training center to Colorado Springs is in the Denver area (Brighton, CO).

Journeyman Lineman
Build and maintain overhead and underground power lines — the backbone of the electrical grid.
Line Equipment Operator
Operate the cranes, diggers and heavy equipment used in line construction.
Substation Technician
Construct, wire and maintain the substations that step power up and down across the grid.
Traffic Signal Technician
Install and service traffic signals, street lighting and intelligent transportation systems.

MSLCAT — Mountain States Line Constructors Apprenticeship & Training
MSLCAT is Utah-based and serves a multi-state area within the IBEW 8th District. Apply directly through MSLCAT — the closest facility to Colorado Springs is the Denver-area (Brighton) training center.
HELMETS TO HARD HATS
Helmets to Hard Hats is a national program that connects transitioning active-duty military, veterans, National Guard and Reserve members with career training in the building and construction trades — including the IBEW/NECA electrical apprenticeship. It's free to join, and the skills and discipline you built in the service translate directly to a career in the trade.
Veterans interested in an electrical career are encouraged to explore Helmets to Hard Hats, then apply through the JATC (Inside — Wireman) or MSLCAT (Outside — Lineman) as described above.
